After their first phone call, they went on to have daily conversations. “Talking to him every day about everything was what made us become close,” Ms. Evans said. “After three months, he told me he didn’t want to see anyone else — that it was just me he wanted to be with, and I told him I felt the same way.”
Dr. Koch proposed twice — first on Jan. 9, 2022, when he was hospitalized for pneumonia related to Covid-19. “We were in a hospital room, and I was thinking about how this woman would not leave my side,” Dr. Koch said. He asked her to marry him, and she said yes.
The couple kept the engagement a secret until six months later, when Dr. Koch formally proposed with a ring. However, they did not move in together until after their honeymoon.
The two were wed in front of 100 people at Our Lady of the Pines Catholic Church in Woodville on June 24 by Reverend Ronald Foshage, a priest from St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Jasper. A reception followed in the church’s family center.
