In June 2021, Shoshana Beth Heerter was swiping so perfunctorily on Tinder that she inadvertently swiped left on Rahul Kishore Boga’s profile. Immediately, it was as if somehow she sensed she made a mistake.
She then paid to upgrade her account so that she could see Mr. Boga’s profile on her screen again.
“Best $5 I’ve ever spent,” she said.
Ms. Heerter, 33, was living in Salem, Mass., when she first connected with Mr. Boga, 31, who had left his native India in 2019 to live and work abroad, and ended up in Boston.
Ms. Heerter had learned to video chat with prospective suitors early on, so she could decide if meeting in person, “is worth my time and effort,” she said.
