Miu Miu’s spring 2022 runway show helped set the agenda for a new wave of preppy style, from ribcage-grazing cropped tennis sweaters to pleated micro-mini skirts that would eventually appear in dozens of fashion editorials. The collection’s must-have factor extended all the way to the footwear. Models walked down this runway in distressed but also very chic trainers, made in a collaboration with New Balance.
The Miu Miu x New Balance sneakers, a reimagining of the 574 tennis shoe in semi-frayed denim, landed in stores months after their Milan Fashion Week reveal and sold out almost instantly. But there’s good news ahead for Miuccia devotees who missed them the first time around: The Miu Miu x New Balance collab is once again up for grabs, in Miu Miu stores worldwide and in Miu Miu’s online boutique. Some sizes have already sold out, but several are still up for grabs.
The comeback tour includes three new versions of the beloved 1988 New Balance sneaker Miu Miu updated for its spring 2022 runway. This time, two trainers come in denim (one blue, one marbled cognac), and the third arrives in vintage-inspired white leather. In true Miuccia Prada fashion, they’re elevated with strategically-distressed trims and fading to feign natural wear and tear—just like last time. To tie the two brands in a perfect bow, the sneakers’ tongues are stamped with stacked Miu Miu and New Balance logos.
The second offering also had a new campaign to match. Photographer and videographer Moni Haworth captured model Kayla Dunlap walking, running, and strutting in all the new pairs, plus a selection of Miu Miu ready-to-wear. It’s a reminder that these aren’t shoes reserved for the runway—they’re meant to be worn, and often.
Shopping the Miu Miu x New Balance sneakers is a race; styling them is a marathon. If you manage to secure a pair, follow the catwalk’s lead by keeping outfits minimal. These luxe yet laid-back sneakers will always work with athleisure or relaxed denim in your day-to-day life. But don’t be afraid to wear them with runway-inspired suit sets—or a pleated mini skirt.
