If you’re anything like me, you’re anxiously awaiting your first perfect beach day— i.e. the day when it’s finally acceptable to step outside in a swimsuit and nothing else. Everlane anticipated our collective desire for a summer (safely) enjoyed by the water and is finally launching its first swimwear collection, dropping tomorrow on April 15th.

Everlane, your go-to destination for sustainable and affordable basics, is launching a line of premium-quality swimwear made with the recycled fabric Econyl, a feat that took years in the making. Kimberley Smith, Everlane’s chief supply chain officer, says the brand has been working on a swim line since 2018, but didn’t want to rush or “compromise on the quality or the environmental impact when creating our first swim collection.” Smith notes that the pieces are made of 82 percent recycled fabrics, and they’re actively working on getting that number to 100. All in all, the line is made of 13,768 pounds of recycled plastic that would have otherwise ended up in the same oceans we want to vacation beachside at. “Being able to take plastic waste out of the ocean and landfills and turn it into something beautiful is something we’re really proud of,” says Smith.

Not only are these bathing suits part of a push toward circular fashion production cycles, but the fit, quality, and color are also part of Everlane’s familiar DNA: think minimal design, sleek lines, and wearable pieces that will stand the test of time. Sonia Martin, VP of design, says that “we knew that finding the right fabric was at least 70% of the design puzzle.” After sourcing the Econyl fabric, the Everlane team fit the swimsuits “on 112 various body shapes and sizes. We really did obsess over this to make the highest quality swimsuit at a radical price.” The Everlane team stressed over the details—making sure the clasps would stay flush against the skin, that the removable padding was minimal, yet supportive— ensuring that customers will be comfortable.

The seven-piece collection is available in sizes XXS—XXL, with standout styles including a universally flattering v-neck maillot and a square neck bikni. The muted palette comes in eight colors with delectable names, like a soft sage green dubbed Herb and a buttery Sunflower hue that evokes a hazy field of flowers. The team at Everlane was not lying when they said the line’s price point is “radical”—prices start at $30 (!!!) for bottoms and tap off at $70 for one-pieces.
