Exhausted after an arduous trial, Lloyd Zimmerman was in no mood to fulfill special requests. In fact, the Minnesota judge just wanted to be left alone. But an unexpected call brought out his compassion. On this week’s Modern Love podcast, Giancarlo Esposito reads Mr. Zimmerman’s moving essay, “Making a Judgment on Love.”
After long career in public interest law and ten years on the bench, Mr. Zimmerman is now retired. He describes fulfilling the man’s dying wish as “one of the most remarkable things that happened in my life” which “took, maybe, 20 minutes.”
Mr. Esposito plays the character Gus Fring on “Breaking Bad” and “Better Call Saul.” He is also the narrator of “Dear White People.” Stay tuned after the reading to hear from Mr. Esposito, Mr. Zimmerman and the Modern Love editor Daniel Jones.
