For me, Thanksgiving has always been about two things: eating an excessive amount of carbs and chasing my macaroni and cheese with a trip to the closest movie theater with my family. This year, that tradition lives on — minus the argument about which movie to see.
This year, “Queen & Slim,” an unconventional love story staring “Get Out” star Daniel Kaluuya and Jodie Turner-Smith, was selected unanimously (and quite early on) as our family film of choice. Critics are already raving about the film directed by Melina Matsoukas, with a screenplay by Lena Waithe — but for us it’s a chance to see a movie that satisfies our craving for representation on the big screen and storytelling that encompasses the fullness of the black experience.
